I disagree but wanted to comment. I think this book is a newer and frankly lesser retelling of Their Eyes Were Watching God. ZNH did it first and did it much better
What I loved about *Where the Crawdads Sing* is how beautifully it captures loneliness, survival, and the deep human need to belong. Kya’s story is heartbreaking, but it is also incredibly powerful because she learns how to survive in a world that repeatedly abandons and misunderstands her.
I loved the way nature becomes more than a setting. The marsh feels like a character of its own, offering Kya safety, rhythm, beauty, and identity when people fail her. The story shows how isolation can shape a person, but also how resilience can grow in the places no one thinks to look.
For me, *Where the Crawdads Sing* was a story about abandonment, strength, and the quiet dignity of becoming your own home.
